Notes for the Day

Good morning – my apologies for the very late start today, I’ve been whacked by a cold over the weekend. I may cut back my time in Trader Talk today to the first key hours this morning and will come back for the last hour and a half of the trading day.

Gold is hanging in there, despite the expected breakout of the USD – this can largely be attributed to the price of copper which is holding near multi-decade highs this morning.

Crude is off marginally from Friday’s close – but keep in mind that Friday saw an intraday reversal. If the energy sector is to hold up today we’ll need to see a fairly big push up in CL that holds above the 1/2 way point of Friday’s range. NG is higher this morning, thanks to hot weather as you head east in North America.

Long Setups

General common strategy: Unless noted otherwise, buy stop just above the “high” value, with an initial protective stop at the low value of the bar, not below the bar.

Retracement or Pause in Up Swing / Up Trend

QQQQ – Nasdaq 100 ETF, tech retracement now on day 6…. getting a little old.

XTO – energy – now we are looking for laggards to pick up

AXP – consumer credit

MOT – telecom, semis

MSFT – if one wanted to get long MSFT here’s an opportunity. I’m passing myself.

Short Setups

General common strategy: Unless noted otherwise, place a sell alert at or just below the low of the setup bar, and look for the first failed intraday bounce after the low has been broken. What we are looking for is price to push down, bounce a little, and fail again – this is where we want to get short.

Retracement or Pause in Down Swing / Down Trend

RMBS – pause in down swing – can be traded long however myself I plan on following 1 or 2 up bars (if they occur) with sell alerts just underneath…

MEDX

INCY – follow up from last week

BSX – follow up from last week
